Roman Bastion, Lincoln

In the forecourt of The Lincoln Hotel, this structure is one of the few visual remnants of the Roman City of Lindum Colonia.  Excavated and on show to the public, the structure is contained within a retaining wall.  It has continued to deteriorate through continuous exposure to weather, particularly to the action of frost.

Careful repair work has been carried out using local oolitic limestone and lime-based mortar, and has allowed the structure to become a safe and interesting attraction within the city.
